Coming from the military, I’ve always had a weird fascination with military map symbols. I began learning them, for no apparent reason and forced them upon other infantry marines. Years later, it would inspire the beginning of Overwatch Designs. Many military members place a variety of decals on their vehicles. I’ve never been one for some of the overt statements, but wanted a subtle identifying decal. I wanted the military map symbol for a heavy machinegun. It would be a symbol that no average person would recognize. In fact, most military members wouldn’t either. For a person to know what it was, they’d have to be a machinegunner, or a planning and operations dork like I am. I was quoted $20 to have it made. I found that rather unreasonable, and year later, began researching what it would cost to start making decals on my own.
